Student reviews of Serge Ricard

Review from a student who took 364M
As far as pros go, the courseload isn't substantial. We have regular homework assignments, one oral presentation, and an in-class essay. There's no final exam, thank God. HOWEVER, there are plenty of cons to be aware of before you decide to take this course. First of all, you need to have a background in linguistics to be able to understand half of the readings. In addition to that, the professor doesn't give very good answers to questions, and he isn't very tolerant of ignorance. The lectures are based primarily on the readings, but the professor tends to go off on plenty of tangents. As for the professor's method of grading, he doesn't explain why he gives he the grade he does. I've gotten some dissatisfying grades and I have no idea what I did wrong to merit it, based on his lack of comments.
