I was really scared of calc since I hadn't taken it in high school, but McAdam made sure to teach it so those that hadn't taken it before could still understand. He in a way tries to make you 'understand' the math instead of just assigning hundreds of problems out of the book. Going to class every day probably helps the most. Also, the TA review sessions are great right before the tests. He is also very helpful and cares about how his students do. There are 3 exams and the final (which counts twice); the lowest test, or half of the final is dropped. Don't freak out during the tests because they aren't very hard, you just have to think clearly instead of getting too scared and blanking out.

Hard if your class is smart. It gets harder and harder. He teachers number theory and not how to write the proofs. There is no book to help you out. I recomend if you are good at proofs take him, you will learn a lot. If you are bad at proofs or want to skip any classes don't take him.

I got an A with this guy my second time taking 408D and it was such a joke. I got a D the first time i took the class with a diff. prof signed up for mcadam went to the first week of lectures then stopped going. I went maybe once or twice before an exam to hear what he said about it but i dont think i ever managed to stay for the whole class. I went to the discussion sections and did the work there. He is pretty easy. Find an old test because his tests are almost the exact same

McAdam is one of my favorite professors I have had at UT. Top 3 easily. I had seen the stuff we covered for the first month before, but after that it was completely new to me. He tries to learn everyone's name and really pulls participation out of a jaded generation. If you go, and try, and let him engage you-- you will learn. He's a very reasonable man, and personally I found his tests to be a breeze. Homework isn't required but if you aren't a mathy person, you need to be doing homework to learn, so you shouldn't take him. For those interested in math, personally driven, and inclined to learn-- he's up there with Dr. Guy (who I had for M 427K and greatly enjoyed as well-- search Guy if you haven't heard of him).

Professor McAdam is a bit nutty but a cool prof. although his lectures a bit hard to grasp especially if you've never taken calculus. he's also pretty intimidating, if you answered wrong in class or said something he didn't think was intelligent he pretty much made fun of you.his tests were pretty hard and consisted of about 8 to 15 questions. if you've never taken calculus i'd suggest taking someone else. i failed the course and it wasn't because i can't do math, i just didn't get his style of lecturing.

He's completely insane like any good math teacher should be. He definitely knows what he's talking about. Sometimes it feels like he thinks you're stupid, but I don't think that's how he means it, so don't take it personally. On the sylabus, he said that he would give us the grade he thinks we deserve. I completely bombed the second test. I scored 50 out of 100. With a conventional grading system, it would have been difficult to get a B after that, but when he looked at my grades on the other two tests, he thought I deserved an A, so that's what I got.
