My first impression of Brian was kind of bad. I mean, he was stumbling on the sine of zero. But as I attended more classes, I realized that he really does know what he's talking about and is a decent prof. He shows several examples (a couple of which are in the textbook) for each topic. The class is pretty easygoing, and occasionally he'll let you out early if he feels the topic has been fully covered. Sometimes he'll make mistakes on the chalkboard, but the guy's human. The quizzes were weekly, always announced, and super easy. I thought the tests were fairly easy also but long. No calculator allowed. Brian is an easy prof to approach.. I definitely recommend his course.

Best math professor I've had at UT. He lectures with a basic "This is what we're talking about, this is how you do it, and this is approximately why it works" type format. He doesn't bog anyone down in proofs, just an intuitive understanding of what the math means. There's regular homework, but it's never collected: just regular quizzes in discussion with problems straight off the homework. (If you've done it, it takes 5 min, if you haven't good luck.) Tests are fair and straightforward, and the final was non-cumulative.

He is a really cool teacher. he know the material real well, and has a nice personality. he tries to interact themost possible with the rest of the class. he drops two grades, which makes it possible to not take the final. you'll do good if you go to class and pay attention and do the homework.

He is a great calculus teacher, which is hard to come by at UT. No homework is turned in. We had weekly quizes over problems from the homework. He gave 3 tests and a final in 408C. He gave 2 tests and a final in 408D. Neither finals were cumulative. If your grade progressively gets better he'll give you a decent grade. He gave partial credit for some answers on tests. Both times I had him he dropped the quiz average if it hurt your overall grade. He explains the material very well, and works examples. He often taught his discussion sections because the TA sucked for 408D.

Professor Martensen is the BEST professor I had this semester. His lectures are very straight-forward and he gives plenty of examples to go along with concepts. He's also a really funny guy. The TA was really good too. We had a quiz every week, but they were pretty easy and you get to drop your lowest 2. We had 3 tests which weren't comprehensive. There were 6 grades total: 3 tests, 1 quiz average, and the final counted twice. Out of those 6, he drops your lowest 2, so if you're satisfied with your grade before the final, you don't even have to take it! TAKE HIM if you can, he's AWESOME!!

Just do yourself a favor and get in his class. Teaches so that you understand things, but doesn't try to kill you with insane details that you will forget, just makes you understand the important things. Decent lecturer, low stress grading system.
